INSERT INTO news VALUES (12,0,'Embeddable ISDN Modems for Europe and N. America','Xecom announces a second generation, double speed family \r\nof modular ISDN terminal adapters. The products enable an OEM equipment \r\ndesigner to include ISDN access into a board or box design with the \r\naddition of a single component and without the extra space and design \r\ntime required for a discrete component level implementation. \r\nCompatible products are available for both the European \"S/T\" interface \r\nand the North American \"U\" interface standards. Both versions use \r\nchannel bonding techniques to provide a full 128k bps digital channel \r\nin synchronous mode.\r\n\r\nThe new product family includes the XEISDNB, an ISDN Terminal Adapter \r\nwith integral NT1 (U interface) which meets the customer premise equipment \r\n(CPE) requirements for North American telephone systems. Firmware in the \r\nmodule is compatible with all standard ISDN central office switches \r\nused in North America. The multi-chip module is housed in a 70mm x 35mm x \r\n10.8mm H (2.75\" x 1.38\" x 0.42\"H) 48 pin plastic package for minimum board \r\nspace utilization. The XEISDNB is the smallest footprint ISDN terminal \r\nadapter available anywhere.\r\n\r\nThe second new product, XEISDNS provides equivalent size and \r\nperformance with the \"S/T\' interface configuration common in the European \r\nmarketplace. It is compliant with the Euro-ISDN standard. Both the \r\nXEISDNB and S provide a serial data channel capable of 1200 to \r\n128,000 bps synchronous or 300 to 115,300 bps asynchronous rate over a \r\nsingle ISDN connection (two bonded B-channels).\r\n\r\nMulti-Link PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol), Asynchronous Inverse \r\nMultiplexing (AIM) and synchronous BONDING protocol are implemented \r\nwithin the modules to enable the user to choose a protocol compatible with \r\nhis system architecture. The user data interface is a standard 5 volt \r\nlevel RS-232 serial port configuration. 12 volt RS-232 drivers may be \r\nadded externally if desired.\r\n\r\nBoth new Terminal Adapters work with the existing XEISDNP which adds the \r\ncapability to connect an POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) telephone, modem, \r\nor fax machine to the second B channel of the ISDN physical line This feature \r\nutilizes the second channel of the high speed ISDN interface without requiring \r\nthe user to purchase new and expensive ISDN telephones or fax equipment. \r\nThis module provides full dial tone, ring voltage, and calling progress tones \r\nto the analog line, emulating the functions of an analog central office \r\nswitch. With the XEISDNP operational the data transmission rate \r\nautomatically drops to 64k bps when an analog call is placed on the second \r\nchannel, and recovers to 128k bps when the analog call is terminated.\r\n \r\n\r\nThe XEISDNB implements 2B1Q encoding per ANSI T1.601 for the North \r\nAmerican standard interface. Setup of ISDN switch parameters and module \r\nconfiguration are implemented through an extended AT command set, setup \r\nmenus, or preset configurations built into the firmware and accessible \r\nthrough the RS-232 port. Special designer- friendly features include \r\nan ISDN Monitor function with 15 design, downloading and debugging \r\ncommands to simplify custom firmware design by the equipment maker and 256k x \r\n16 flash memory for firmware update flexibility.\r\n\r\nThe XEISDNS is compliant with ETS 300 012 at the \"S/T\" reference point and \r\nis compatible with the ETSI Euro-ISDN switch configuration. Setup \r\ntechniques and design tools are identical to those of the North American version.\r\n\r\nApplications for the XEISDNB and XEISDNS include high data rate process \r\nmonitoring and control, compressed or slow-scan video, network monitoring, \r\nhigh quality audio transmission, remote LAN access, and Internet/Intranet \r\naccess. Miniature, mobile, and portable equipment will benefit from the compact, \r\nsingle module designs.\r\n\r\nBoth products are available now through authorized Xecom representatives. For \r\ndata sheets, a complete selection guide, information on ISDN, and \r\na list of authorized representatives visit the ISDN page on this website.');
INSERT INTO news VALUES (13,0,'First Complete DAA for Shared Line Applications','Xecom, Inc. today announced the first complete single-\r\ncomponent DAA (Data Access Arrangement) module designed for equipment \r\nwhich shares a voice telephone line. The XE014JS constantly monitors the \r\nstatus of the telephone line to prevent equipment communications from \r\ninterfering with the voice communications of the user. This feature is \r\ncritical in making consumer and small business products such as set-\r\ntop boxes, remote-read utility meters, faxes and home medical monitors \r\nsafe and unobtrusive to telephone users at their home or office location.\r\n\r\nThe XE014JS adds a unique loop voltage monitor to Xecom\'s standard DAA \r\ncircuits. The line transformer, ring detector, loop current holding \r\ncircuit and hook switch perform the same functions as in any standard DAA. \r\nIt is the loop voltage monitor which tailors the XE014JS for secondary \r\naccess to the shared line. \r\n\r\nShared Line Functions\r\nTwo complementary shared line features are supported. The first \r\nprevents the host equipment from interfering with a voice call in \r\nprogress, while the second allows the equipment to yield the line to a \r\nhigher priority voice call attempt.\r\n\r\nConnect Detect\r\nThe first shared line function operates while the host equipment is \r\npowered and ready but \"on-hook\" (hook switch open) and not using the \r\nphone line. When the hook switch is open, the Connect Detect (/CD) \r\noutput continuously reports the availability of the local telephone \r\nline. A low Connect Detect output tells the host equipment that the \r\nlocal telephone line is currently inactive and \r\ntherefore available \r\nfor use. If another telephone or other connected equipment seizes \r\nthe line to make a call, the XE014JS will sense the line voltage \r\nlevel change and output a logic high signal on the Connect Detect line. \r\nThis informs the host equipment that the line is in use and not to \r\ninitiate a call. This feature prevents the host equipment from \r\ninterrupting a call in progress.\r\n\r\nHandset Interrupt\r\nThe second shared line function operates while the host equipment is \r\nmaking or receiving a call (hook switch closed). While the hook \r\nswitch is closed, the Line Voltage monitor senses when another \r\ntelephone extension goes off hook. The XE014JS then outputs a \r\nlogic low output on the Handset Interrupt (/HI) line. The host \r\nequipment can then drop its connection by deactivating the \r\nOH line. This will permit the other user to initiate a call \r\nwithout waiting for completion of the automated call. This feature \r\nis especially important in residential applications where \r\nautomated equipment must be able to yield the telephone line \r\nfor potential outbound emergency calls. \r\n\r\nCompact Packaging\r\nThe XE014JS represents the latest extension of Xecom\'s unique \r\nSlim-Link PLCC Family. This family of integrated modular DAA \r\nproducts provides the first single-component telephone line \r\ninterfaces available in PLCC packaging. This is achieved in a \r\n68 pin outline measuring 0.952\" x 0.990\" x 0.170\", \r\nmaking it ideal \r\nfor compact, thin profile card designs. This reduction in \r\ncomponent height is made possible by Xecom\'s proprietary \r\nlow-profile, high performance transformer design. \r\n\r\nBenefits for High Volume Assembly\r\nThe Slim-Link PLCC package delivers important advantages for \r\nhigh-volume DAA users. The modified PLCC package replaces \r\ntwenty-five to thirty individual parts with a single, easily \r\nhandled component. The Slim-Link PLCC utilizes a standard 68-pin \r\nPLCC outline with a simplified 18-pin configuration. \r\nThe resulting package fits precisely into a 68-pin PLCC carrier. \r\nThis standard fit eases automated handling by pick and place equipment.\r\n\r\nLowest Component Count\r\nXecom\'s modular DAA\'s provide the lowest component count solution \r\nfor a complete telephone line interface, significantly \r\nbelow other \"solid-state\" optically or capacitively coupled \r\nsolutions. This feature dramatically lowers the purchasing, \r\ninventory, assembly, and testing costs of embedded modems and other \r\nphone line-connected equipment.\r\n\r\nFor more information on the XE014JS and other Xecom DAA\'s go to the \r\nTelephone Line Interface (DAA) page and Selection Guide.');
